The Arrival
It’s rare to recommend something that doesn’t have a final “The End,” but Reverend Insanity is the exception that proves the rule. As I mentioned on my Reviews page, the fact that this is unfinished shouldn’t keep you away; the journey itself is one of the most solid, unapologetic experiences I’ve had in fiction. It doesn’t ask for your permission to be dark; it just invites you into a world that is as cold as it is captivating.
The Deep Dive
What kept me staying for this story, chapter after chapter, was the sheer scale of Gu Zhen Ren’s vision. The world-building is massive, and it doesn’t just feel big for the sake of being big—it feels lived-in and dangerous.
- A Unique Power System: Unlike typical fantasy tropes, the power system here is refreshingly unique. Every new discovery feels satisfying and logical within the world’s internal rules.
- The Unfiltered Protagonist: Fang Yuan is a character that forces you to rethink how stories are told. You aren’t just reading a hero’s journey; you’re watching a masterclass in strategic, cold-blooded progression.
The Eternal Marination
Usually, my “Marination Strategy” is a choice—I step away to let chapters pile up for a better experience later. With Reverend Insanity, the marination is permanent due to its hiatus. It leaves you in a state of emotional suspension, having traveled through this deep, complex world only to meet a sudden silence.
However, the sheer depth of what is there makes it feel more complete than most finished series. It remains a “Hidden Gem” that earns its reputation every single chapter, even without a final page.
